Introducing Myself

I am a recent graduate from Albion College where I majored in biology, ran cross-country and track and field, and was a member of the Dental Club and Alpha Chi Omega. I now attend Wayne State University, School of Medicine, pursuing my Masters of Science in Basic Medical Sciences. My dream is to be a general dentist, returning home to serve my childhood community, Bay City, MI.

I have been involved with the Miss America Organization for approximately eight years. I continue to be involved because serving my local community and the state of Michigan has never failed to make me smile. In addition, I can be an advocate for two things I value most in this world – education and health.

The Miss America Organization is not only the largest provider of scholarships available for women, but also allows each contestant to be a leader in their personal platform. My platform is “A Child’s Heart: The American Heart Association.” It is an honor to be able to share with children and their families the importance of living a heart healthy lifestyle not only in my community, but statewide. Cardiovascular diseases are prevalent throughout my family and I myself am not immune with severely high cholesterol at the age of 22. This is the motivation behind my personal platform and the notion that health is something commonly taken for granted. This can be achieved by taking action into our own hands.

I am an extremely grateful individual. I am happiest when I am surrounded by family. Without them, I would not have had the experiences I have already encountered throughout my life. They have provided me with the love and support to not only accomplish, but exceed educational and personal goals.

I am a spirited and energetic woman with a myriad of activities that make me thrive. I love spending time with my family, a pair of good running shoes, the outdoors, studying piano and science, a good book, Michigan State basketball, and chocolate covered strawberries with a coke!

It is such an honor to represent my hometown throughout this next year and at the state pageant this June. Enjoy my journey with me as your Miss Bay County 2010-2011!

All my love,
Sydney
